2007-2008 Concert Season |
|||
This season we are Branching Out to incorporate different artistic disciplines |
|||
Cool ShadeImprovisation/JazzBack in the old days, Classical music used to incorporate improvisation regularly. Why is it no longer so? Come listen to some classical improv, then hear the intersection between Classical and Jazz. We will hear works by Bach and Mozart, as well as classical jazz by Schulhoff and Duke Ellington, featuring saxophone. The second half will be a Jazz set with lots of improvisation. |
Out on a LimbDanceDancers’ supple limbs have swayed to music for centuries. Dance and music are, of course, integrally linked. We will explore dance music through the centuries, from Renaissance to current day. As a special treat, the second half of this concert will feature Stanko Milov, Pacific Northwest Ballet Principal dancer, in a brand new self-choreographed modern dance interpretation. |
“Lovely as a Tree”Poetry and MusicPoetry, with its rhythm and meter, is uniquely suited to be combined with music. We will explore music which is inspired by poetry, music which inspired poetry, and of course, poems set to music. The second half will feature early “Rap” music: William Walton’s delightfully witty Façade, featuring spoken poems rhythmically set to music, with an unusual mix of instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, percussion, cello, and orator. |
