For the final concert, we will be joined by the Seattle Girls’ Choir with Artistic Director Jacob Winkler. Enjoy the beautiful clear song of their top choir, Prime voci, interspersed with (and accompanied by) your Simple Measures musicians to bring you music both “serious” and light-hearted (Beethoven, Copland, Randall Thompson), including Stabat Mater by Italian Baroque composer G.B. Pergolesi. You’d have to be a real yokel not to dig these local vocals.

20^th Anniversary Concert: Krishnaswami-Salman Duo

A Simple Measures Benefit Concert

The Krishnaswami-Salman duo will present a concert celebrating their 20th Anniversary of sublime music making.  Come hear this experienced duo as they present a recital of great pieces from the repertoire for cello and piano.  Featured will be Cesar Franck’s beautiful Sonata in A Major, which was the main piece on their first recital 20 years ago.  The depth of artistry of these two long time collaborators is not to be missed! Champagne reception to follow for those who purchase sponsor tickets.

Cello Divas

You KNOW you love cello!! Here’s your chance to be surrounded by the dulcet tones of a choir of cellos as we explore what perhaps is the western world’s most loved instrument. Hear works by Bach, Fauré, and some cool surprises! The culminating work will be the beautiful Bachianas Brasileiras #5 by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, scored for EIGHT cellos and soprano and featuring Seattle Opera regular Terri Richter. Incomparable! (We won’t be too high strung. Promise.)

Unstrung Hero

In the only concert this season that is unsung, we present one of our favorite unstrung heroes, clarinetist Sean Osborn. Luxuriate to the strains of Brahms as we bring you his lush, beautiful Clarinet Quintet as well as a wide variety of other music for clarinet and strings including a piece that Sean himself composed inspired by the Beatles!

Feminine Mystique

We all know that women have a certain je ne sais quoi which sets them apart. This season we are exploring and celebrating the substantial artistic contributions made by women, both musically and in other disciplines.

Significant Others - February 5-7, 2011

These compositions by the oft neglected Other Sex are indeed Significant. This program features works by Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara Schumann and other significant women composers such as Rebecca Clark and Nadia Boulanger, culminating with Amy Beach’s lush, romantic Piano Quintet.  Seattle’s own star violist Mara Gearman will lead our Simple Measures musicians.

The Glass Ceiling. We are presenting New York based ETHEL, a string quartet with an exciting and innovative presentation style.  Featured music includes an arrangement by ETHEL of Philip Glass’ sound track to the movie “The Hours” based upon a story about Virginia Woolf, as well as other works by women (and men).  Do not arrive late for we have a special musical surprise to begin the show.

Web Designs. The Gossamer Collective will spin a multimedia musical web of art, photography, and clothing design creating a living tapestry of sound, color, texture and emotion. As presented by Simple Measures the multimedia work of the five women of the Collective will incorporate various musical works including the monumental Piano Trio by Ravel.
